Currently, the chemical characterisation of nanoparticles and the relation between chemical composition and biological effects of these substances remains a by and large unsolved problem. This seriously hinders quality and process control in the manufacturing as well the estimation of the dangers of the release of nanoparticles into the environment. As an example, the German federal environment agency (Umweltbundesamt) sees an increased need for research in the "characterisation and classification as well as the evaluation of the effect of nanomaterials".
NanoPaCT will try to meet this challenge with a combination of surface characterisation methods and thereby an optimisation of the analysis of nanoparticles.

Welcome to Nanopact
NanoPaCT (NanoParticle Characterisation Techniques) is a project of a consortium of five partners in Münster, Germany. This project is financially supported by the Department of Innovation of Nordrhein Westfalen. NanoPaCT utilizes the high standard of expertise in Münster in the fields of surface and nanoanalysis to bring about improvements in the available individual techniques for the characterisation of nanoparticles as well as a cooperative network between these techniques. Besides that, the analytical results of this project will be correlated with the biological effects of nanoparticles, which are also determined.
